Michigan State University Brain Bee, Neuroscience Fair, and
Brain Awareness Week
The Brain Bee at MSU is competition that challenges high school students on their
knowledge of neuroscience facts. Topics covered include: intelligence, memory, emotions, sensations,
movement, stress, aging, sleep, addiction, Alzheimer’s, and stroke. This
competition enables students to learn about the brain and career opportunities
in the neurosciences.
A Neuroscience Fair for the general public was held in conjunction with the Brain Bee at MSU Competition from 1-5pm on January 12, 2013. Teachers, students, and parents will be able to experience neuroscience first hand and hear from local celebrities in neuroscience. Experience cool neuroscience activities including hearing and seeing real neurons fire, learning how our senses can be tricked, and even touching a real human brain! The fair is free and open to the public
Every March, MSU participates in Brain Awareness Week. During this time, we visit local elementary schools to teach students about the brain. In the past, I have shown demos of how an action potential works, optical illusions, and allowed students to touch and observe real brain specimens! I love teaching the public about the brain!
